Friday, May 4th, I arrived for a pre-opening visit/work weekend mainly to focus on dock work. The weather was extremely co-operative with warm and sunny skies and little wind. As we were only two sets of hands, Claude and I managed to assemble and install hardware on only four of the 10 docks, however we did float and secure them at the front of camp 1. They will have to be anchored and secured this upcoming weekend by members arriving for fishing. Treated lumber should also be purchased to replace missing planks AFTER the docks have been installed. Please see notes on new boat care, and TAKE CAUTION of the old rock cribs when entering this area with ANY boats and motor props.
Camp 1 Docks ready for assembly and anchoring

Dock at Camp 3. Do not moor any boats here yet
Anchors for docks
It is recommended that fisherman in Camp 3 DO NOT attempt to moor the new 'f-glass boats' at this dock until a new one is properly installed complete with boat bumpers.  For those of you going in this weekend I invite you to refer to the e-mailed instructions and photos of May 8.
New 'glass' boats must be treated with extreme care
As you can see the club purchased several new 'Fiber Glass' boats for members use. The thoughts initially at last years AGM were to go aluminum, however these presented themselves as an opportunity  and we will give them a go. For those of you not used to fishing in these 'glass' type boats, please note they are easily damaged by rough treatment, and will not last once the gel-coat is damaged by rocks, anchors or motors. The back of the boat below shows a small abrasion already incurred while in transit and will have to be repaired prior to launch or the hull will be compromised with any water contact, rain or otherwise. Before placing any motor in contact with the stern, a piece of plywood or other sturdy wood product should be inserted between the motor clamp and the EXTERIOR of the transom. (There is a steel plate on the inner side, but it seems the planners neglected the exterior). A heavy steel motor, or otherwise will cause SEVERE DAMAGE to the boat.
No transom protection on back
Easy to damage

It's going to be a great season, albeit with lots of work to be done by us, the members.  I wish all of you, your guests and families, a safe and pleasant season. The water is cold so don't fall in until mid June. Enjoy the club, and come back here soon with your stories.
Sunset May 4
