Last week I headed up here to do exactly this. Along with a little fly casting at the White Rocks.
When the temperature hit the nineties it was nice to just fall into the lake and cool off.
However it wasn't all play, as the plan was to reinforce the pillar/post supports under camp 3, and re-adjust and add weight to the anchors on the docks installed this spring.
The entire job under camp 3 took about 10 hours over the two days we worked, but in between we seemed to find other small projects and the heat was bare able working under the cabin. All in all 11 posts were either replaced or rebuilt and staballized.
How often can the club say we've purchased a new fridge? Not in my life time anyways. Well that's exactly what has happened and although slightly pre-owned it is now installed in camp 4, which also now has running water, several new mattress and a new fridge. Did I say that already?
What remains an easy job now at camp 4 will be to remove the old decking and install the new already cut planks. We'll be looking for help here.
Last fall we had a plan to have a massive clean up in early spring in all cabins. Unfortunately with the dock installations in May, and then the full camps throughout spring, we were only into this project in July. We've now said goodbye to two more mouse nest mattresses. Claude and his wife Diane have focused on mouse control and some serious vacuuming and floor washing. All pots, pans, and dishes were washed along with stoves tops, oven, counters, and cupboards. Beds were moved, shelving dusted and more trash removed. In between, Claude re-installed new water lines to camp 4 and replaced the two collapsed grey water systems at Camps 1 and 3. Did you know we have grey water systems?
All things were not rosy last weekend. I was surprised and quite disturbed last Friday to see this group of 5 tents at the end of the lake. A letter has been sent to Mr Miron the Zec mgr. to inquire about the regulations which were clearly broken.
We have much work ahead of us, but seem to be getting some great production and participation from Claude. Thanks to Tony Fowler who cut, split and piled a good cord or more of hardwood into the woodshed. Also thank you once more to Jon Kleivstul who provided us with 6 gallons of grey boat paint and most of the wood supports used under camp 3.
There are lots of beds, clean camps, beautiful days and starry nights coming up in August. Make it happen for yourself. You deserve it, and it's all paid for in your dues. Bring a guest and share.
The Secretary
