September Already?

Dear Fellow Club Member,

Over the last year we canvassed members of our club to get a sense of involvement in the day to day /month to month business goings-on.  We are happy to report that many of you stepped up and are active in different ways. During the winter months, Bob and Rick Kelland were instrumental in locating and acquiring new floating docks in Long Sault, Ontario. In April we had these docks delivered to l'Assension, and over the last few months they were transported to the lake. They still need to be anchored and installed for next spring.

On the opening weekend, members brought boats out from the boathouse, and floated and secured the dock at camp 1 as well as cleaned up the camps for following weekends.

A call for some project action this summer brought Sean Elliot, Rick Emery, Stan Roy, and myself up to do some cool work. Stan stripped the old dock at camp 1 and piled it into reusable lumber/firewood behind Camp 1. Rick painted the fridge in 1 on his holidays. Sean visited several times to stain the railing and deck of camp 1. In the safety department, stove pipes have been replaced in 1, 2, and 3, and leaking propane tubes repaired in 1 and 3. Jim Moore refilled all the fire extinguishers. During August, I enjoyed some stone step construction at camp 2 along with tree clearing at camp 1.

All in all the participation level is up and is helping to keep our membership and guest fees down, so we can put more into capital improvement.

Over the next few weeks we are closing up camp for the winter. Water will be shut off at all camps after Thanksgiving weekend. The last wooden boats currently at camp 2 will be in the boathouse after Thanksgiving as well. Any hunters interested in using the camps should be BOOKING NOW. Claude reports many deer tracks, around the camp with some good size bucks. My facebook pics reflect this (see link below), and along with duck hunting, or just enjoying the colors, our location is a gem, and always a rewarding getaway.

Members using the club after Thanksgiving weekend will be hauling water from the lake as the pumps will ALL BE WINTERIZED.

As of this past weekend, all 10 docks have been delivered to the lake as mentioned earlier on. They MUST be relocated to the bay in front of camp 2 and secured for the winter. I will be heading up for this chore sometime next week and could use a hand or two.

Our AGM will be held November 12 at the Brasserie Hymus in Pointe Claire at 10 AM. Positions available are president, vice president, and four directors. As of this date, the secretary and treasurer have decided to remain in their positions. Right Alec?

Any new members? Please let us know whom you might like to put up for membership.

Our club is in good shape. Thanks as always for your feedback and involvement.

The Secretary
